Hi,

Is it possible to configure Excel Calculation Services in a seperate Server Farm?

We are doing lot of operation like opening, refreshing, data population (using stored procedures), saving it back to document library using Sharepoint API & Excel Webservices.

The problem here is, if simultaneously some 100s of user access the application, then it will have severe performance effect in the server. So what we need is, do all the manupulation mentioned above in a different server farm.

If possible, please give me some references to proceed further.

Thanks

Hi,
As far as the index server role is concerned, the availability of index server doesn't effect search services as a whole. This is because the index server propagates the indexed content periodically to search servers. As index server goes down, the search servers can still use these content indexes to provide search results. The only drawback is that the search results don't include new or updated content until the index server is restored. So most of the times, index server down time is tolerable by organizations.

Hello,

I know based on the MOSS documentation the index role can not be redundant. What are the options for high availability solution to provide service continuity? Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Mohammed
